referrals into paying customers, earning you valuable
commission income.

Make your promotional efforts bear fruit.
Spend your limited time in the most productive fashion.
Let's face it -- there is nothing more disheartening than
putting forth your best effort, working hard, and
achieving... nothing. Nobody can afford (financially or
personally) that kind of nonsense.

1) Know The Product(s) You Are Representing

It's not surprising that this gets the #1 position.
Intimate knowledge of the products you represent is *key* to
effective PREselling. It is the only way that you can

benefits (and possible detriments) to your unique audience.
Some affiliates still try to work around this reality...
They visit their merchant partner's sales page, and
duplicate that product's features list on their site.
Sadly, this doesn't work. Why?
These affiliate are not PREselling... they are *selling.*
And that's the job of their merchant, not theirs!
Bottom line?
There's no way around it. Believe me, you can't fool your
audience. They'll know if your recommendation "rings
hollow," and they can also smell a "sales pitch" a mile
away. In all honesty, if you don't know the product you are
representing, you would be better off focusing ONLY on the
products that you DO know!
Let me repeat...
Know the product(s) you are representing!
If you don't own Site Build It!... don't PREsell it.

"Why would Ken tell me not to fake it?"
Well, putting the ethical issues aside, it
just does not work. Take a look at these two

Question: How can you "fake that"?
Answer: You can't. And the reader knows it.
However, there is an answer. Either get a
copy of SBI! and build your own successful
story (with its own revenue streams), or
PREsell using other means. And the 5 Pillar

we'll see.

2) Know Your Visitors

Zoom in on your visitor/reader/audience...
o What are his/her needs?
o How does SBI! provide a solution?
o What questions will s/he likely have about SBI!?
o How can I remove any possible barriers to a referred
purchase?
After this type of reflection, you will confidently know
what appeals (and what doesn't!) to your target group and
how to best present information and solutions (i.e., the
product/service you represent!) in a PREselling article or
e-zine campaign. No more wasted time or money on the wrong
approach for your audience.
Knowing your visitor also means "looking out for them."
Anytime you promote a product you're unfamiliar with, or
anytime you promote a product *only* because of high
commission payouts, you are looking after *YOUR OWN*
interests, and not the interests of YOUR CLIENT.
Success, if any, will be fleeting and temporary. In order
to earn affiliate income on the Net, your audience *must*
trust you and your recommendations.
And... for your audience to trust your recommendations, you
can *never* steer them the wrong way (if you do, it will
come back to haunt you!).

I can't overemphasize this enough. Back when
we were just starting out, some significant
marketing gurus, respected for their
knowledge AND integrity, gave us a great
break by recommending MYSS! -- I can tell you
that the motivating factor was definitely not
the gigantic US$5 commission!
Other folks, and we won't name names,
continued to recommend other overpriced bad
products (and we REALLY won't name names!).
Well, to make a long story short, affiliates
like Allan Gardyne and Ralph Wilson, who
focus on their readers first, thrive more
than ever.
And those other folks?...
Haven't heard from them in a long time... but
they were quite well known at the time. The
only way they could even hope to start over
would be under a fake name.
Keep it real. Honor your customer.
You'll be glad you did, in the long run.

And... to ensure that you never steer your audience the
wrong way, you need to...
Know the product(s) you are representing!

Know your visitors.

specific RR URL for SBI!) will not, by itself, get the sale.
Of course, it *IS* necessary. But so is a MULTIPLE-message
approach by you.
So on this final "to do" week... here's your single action
